I wasn’t one to know much about the plot or ever have read the graphic novel and without any preconceptions I was quickly wrapped up in the Watchers world. A recommended must see if you have any interest in a good story and masked hero’s struggling to find their place in a world that has moved on without them.

In simple words, wicked awesome.
In a fans words, simply satisfying.
In everyone’s words, applause. Simply.

We saw more then a few people dressed in uniform, heard giddy cheering multiple times through out and left thrilled to know Star Trek’s future is bright. Cue lens flare. Engage.

More. SPOILERS:

I do still follow the Star Trek’s universe and I did get a lot of new story and interesting possibilities out of this change of the crew. I was actually surprised that they didn’t reset the disaster of the movie.. The new fate of the Vulcan race is a major shift in the Star Trek we know. Timetravelling Old Spock is in the past so anything cold technically happen. I think that is a key point to whatever happens in the universe and whether or not we see the crew resurrecting Vulcan to save Romulus. I don’t believe that is what we will get at least not right away. The people who made this movie understand the history but I think they will continue to reinvent it.

Where this leaves the stories of TNG, Voyager and DS9 is an unknown. No Tuvok? I read the prequel comic (The Countdown) which involves Captain Data, Admrial Picard and Laforge. That story set in the TNG timeline goes beyond what Spock told Kirk in the ice cave. So will new Kirk fit it it all to the point of having Vulcan’s and Romulans alive in the same TNG preserving timeline? Or are we really headed off into a new frontier? I suppose a little of both but then Nero could also survive the round trip through a black hole.

Trivia: It’s established in the comic that the technology of Nero’s upgraded mining ship is of Borg origin.

I thought that Christopher Pine made TOS Kirk young again. The character is there on the screen but also with a perfect natural imaging of Shatner’s physical presence.

Young Spock was good, I’ve watched zero Hero’s to date.

Young Bone’s is great.

Young Scotty is great.

Young Scotty’s sidekick is great.

Visuals/effects, including the lens flares are something Star Trek has deserved.

I want to see this movie again right now.

My level of excitement, anticipation and general giddiness for the new Star Trek movie has reached almost unstable levels. I’ve been interested in the movie since it first came to light in production over a year ago but lately I’ve noticed that I have started to count the days and begun consume as much new Trek as I can find.

It’s great to be so excited about a movie again but May 8th cannot get here fast enough. Really, I need a IRL plot device to fling me into the future.

In case that you too might be digging on Star Trek I’ve put together some of the things that I found this week; including wallpaper images, apps, screen savers, official links, comics and other Trekker goodness.

Some of this is centric to the iPhone, which of course is the best Tricorder, and like Kirk, Spock and Bones I don’t go anywhere without it.

System47 Best LCARS screen saver (Mac/Win)

Star Trek (official web site)

It might be completely weird to you but I’ve got a whole page of Star Trek apps going.

Star Trek Phaser (official app)

Daxhotel, complete episode guide for all incarnations with images.

iLCARS, spoof Triocoder app with animations and sound

Star Trek Wisdom, quotations

Trek Clock, show the time with ST inspired fonts

ST: Countdown, a prequel comic in digital form

ST: Archives, a collection of Trek comics also in digital form

Wallpaper:
